Incorporated in 1980, as a White truck dealer, operating out of a three bay facility, MacKay's Truck & Trailer Center Limited was established by David MacKay and his father, Louis MacKay. The father and son team were both diesel mechanics by trade. In 1982 they became a Western Star dealer. After quickly outgrowing the original facility, the company moved to a larger 10 bay facility at its current location in 1982. The employee roster grew from 2 to 14 in the early years. The main product line was switched to Volvo in 1991 and the company soon added Manac trailers and Serco loaders to their offerings.
Based on the MacKay family commitment to customer service, the business successfully grew to the point where a major expansion was required. As a result, the facility was expanded in 1999 to include a large parts showroom and a modern 19 bay service department, including 2 drive-through bays and a body shop.
In 2008, MacKay's purchased the Mack and Hino dealership in Dartmouth.
